Tutti al bosco

Description

“Tutti al Bosco” is the inclusive offer of the BoBosco Association, stemming from the partnership with the Cerebral Foundation: by renting a top-quality electric wheelchair, which is also suitable for uneven trails, people with mobility difficulties can now safely explore the wonders of the upper Verzasca Valley.

RENTAL

Hiring a wheelchair is easy:

  1. book the wheelchair by completing the form here: contact form;

  2. wait for the confirmation email from us;

  3. go to Sonogno on the appointed day.

If you are on site and decide to hire a wheelchair at the last minute, you can go directly to the info point at Via Stradómm 7 (see attached map below): if available, you can easily hire the wheelchair. In any case, check the opening hours.

Once there, things proceed in the same way as for renting a car: provide a valid document (identity card, passport or driving licence) and fill out a rental contract. The person on site instructs you on how to operate the wheelchair and how to use it correctly. They adapt the wheelchair with you according to your needs (headrest, footrest height, child seat if needed, etc).

Rental price: 25 CHF/3h; 40 CHF/day (Payment on the spot by cash, credit cards or TWINT)

One more moment to illustrate the wheelchair and the routes and that's it: ready, set, go!

The wheelchair

The JST Multidrive wheelchair is a little gem made in Switzerland. Thanks to the rear wheel, which provides stability, this vehicle enables you to navigate uneven trails and move smoothly over dirt roads and meadows. The wheelchair also rotates 360°  on itself and is therefore very easy to manoeuvre. This gives you full peace of mind, because as well as being comfortable, it is absolutely safe: you can adjust the speed, which does not exceed 6 km/h. It can be controlled by both children and adults, with either their right hand or left hand. Should the user be unable to drive it, the wheelchair can be put into assisted mode, in which case the carer takes over control of the vehicle. The maximum permissible weight is 100 kg and the capacious battery easily allows for more than a day on the move.

The JST Multidrive wheelchair is available to anyone with mobility difficulties, whether they may be children, adults or elderly people.

Below is the link to the JST Multidrive wheelchair website with the instructions (available in hard copy at the time the wheelchair is collected): Quick guide.

description of the trails

The trails

Boccia al bosco Frasco Campagna - Frasco “Bolla” (3,6 km)

The route is initially on a paved road up to the group of dwellings of Frasco Torbola. You then cross a first small bridge and 200 metres later a second longer one over the Verzasca River. From then on, the path winds along a dirt road, which is also popular among mountain bikers.

It is a largely flat and quiet path that follows the river, where you can play at the "Boccia al Bosco" stations if you have a wooden ball, which can be purchased at one of our shops. It is therefore particularly suitable for families with children.

Val Redorta Sonogno - Corte (5,1 km)

The Val Redorta is the first of Sonogno's two side valleys and provides access to a breathtaking landscape framed by majestic mountains. The JST Multidrive wheelchair is indispensable, even though the road is paved, because there are some short gravel passages and some areas where the gradient requires it. With the wheelchair it is also possible to access a vantage point on the river and approach the scenic Froda waterfall by crossing a small bridge. Beyond Grotto Efra, the presence of motor vehicles is extremely limited.

Val Vegornèss Sonogno - Cabiói (7,6 km)

Val Vegornèss is the second of Sonogno's side valleys, at the end of which lies the picturesque village of Cabiói, with its small church and typical stone buildings (rustici), behind which are steep slopes covered with broom flowers. It is not uncommon to hear the whistling of marmots, and although the walk is not long, it soon feels like being away from it all. The first part of the route is on a paved road, while the second is more uneven, over concrete agglomerations and somewhat bumpy crossings. Up to this point, the route follows one of the ethnographic itineraries of the Verzasca Valley Museum, marked by brown road signs and featuring an explanatory flyer. The presence of motor vehicles is extremely limited.

In addition to the three official trails, you have the towns of Sonogno and Frasco, as well as the cantonal road, along which caution is advised.

Do not venture onto other trails or outside the three official routes: they are not suitable, not even for the JST Multidrive wheelchair.

Other informations

  • In addition to Sonogno (at the entrance to the Val Redorta road, next to the playground), you will also find an ecological toilet, suitable for people with disabilities, in Gerra V., along the cantonal road: both are public and available to you.

  • If you intend to go to Frasco and do not have a vehicle on which to load your wheelchair, you have two options: 1. take the bus, line 321, checking the timetable at www.ffs.ch; 2. take the cantonal road with your wheelchair (allow about 30 minutes).

  • We recommend that you inform yourself about the weather conditions and equip yourself accordingly, with appropriate clothing. Weather conditions in the mountains can change rapidly.

  • Do you need a place to sleep? The Campagna/Familienhotel restaurant in Frasco, right at the start of one of the itineraries described above (Boccia al bosco), has an equipped room; MyVerzasca, in Brione V., also offers one.
